Having
worked with babies for so many years, I was surprised at my feelings, after my
son was born, of inadequacy and how little I trusted myself to know what was right
for me and my baby—or where to turn to for help. With time and the support
of other new and experienced mothers, as well as supportive professionals, I realized
that my feelings were not unique. I developed a support network of other mothers
who still support each other through our children’s toddler years.
Many women live far from their families and the friends they grew
up with. If you don’t have a network of support, new motherhood can be very
isolating, but doesn’t have to be. Other new mothers are looking for each
other, to share joys, accomplishments, concerns, and frustrations.
My motivation for starting A Mother’s Haven, and our mission,
is to provide soon-to-be and new mothers with a place they can come in their own
community, that provides them with the support, education, and products they need
to enhance their experience as mothers, deepen their bond with their baby, and
form supportive, lasting friendships with other women in the same phase of life.
